Office Visits
This charge applies each time you see one of our doctors. If we are seeing your pet for the same issue as a recheck appointment (within 1-2 months of initial visit for the same problem), the charge is reduced. If you return more than 2 months after an initial visit for the same problem, another full office visit charge will be applied. We try to limit vaccine appointments to once a year, it will help save you money this way. If your pet has vaccine reactions, you may need to come back multiple times and if this is the case, you will not be charged an additional visit charge unless the doctor spends more time other than just giving the vaccination.
Payment Options
Invoices must be paid when services are rendered as we do not have a billing system. We require that first time clients use either cash or credit card on their first visit until we establish a doctor/patient relationship with you. We also accept personal checks with proper ID. If you have financial constraints, we recommend you let us know this before we run any tests on your pet. If we know about it, it will help us keep your bill to a minimum and devise a proper treatment plan for your pet. Estimates are available for any of our services so please don't hesitate to ask for us to create one!
Emergencies
We do accept emergencies at our facility during daytime hours as long as we have a doctor scheduled for a particular day. We suggest you call our hospital if your pet is having an emergency so we can direct you to either come right down or refer you to an emergency facility. We do not have after-hour emergency services, we refer you to Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in East Greenwich – their phone number is (401) 886-6787. They keep us informed when one of our patients is there for any kind of emergency.
Appointments
Our appointments are scheduled every 15 minutes with the exception of first puppy appointments, second opinions and initial acupuncture appointments which are 30 minutes. We strive to accommodate our clients to the best of our ability and get you in when it is convenient for you. We offer evening appointments until 7 pm on most Tuesdays and some Saturday mornings.
Missed Appointments and Rescheduling
We require 24 hours for cancellations in most instances, we do understand that certain issues arise that are beyond our control so we ask that if you need to reschedule, you do so 24 hours or more before. If an appointment is missed, there will be a fee of $25 applied to your account.
Prescriptions and Refills
When your pet is prescribed a drug from our hospital, we recommend that you finish the entire prescription unless your pet is having any kind of reaction such as vomiting, diarrhea or hives. If any of these reactions occur, stop giving the medication and call us immediately. Certain drugs must be decreased over time, if your pet is on one of those medications, we recommend not stopping the drug altogether, even if your pet seems “better.” Please call a few days before you run out of a medication that requires a refill as approval from the doctor may be needed. Some drugs require blood work periodically to monitor liver and kidney function and other drugs may need to be ordered so please give us a few days to order the drug before you run out.
Prescription Foods
We carry a small variety of prescription foods that your pet may be prescribed. Hills foods are ordered every Friday for Monday delivery. We recommend calling in your food order by Friday at noon. Royal Canin and Purina can be ordered any time Monday through Friday but we recommend that you place your order when you are ½ way through your food as we like to try and batch our orders together rather than order one item at a time to avoid shipping charges.
Products Purchased From Outside Sources
We recommend you purchase your pet's drugs, heartworm medications and flea and tick medications directly from us. We have seen issues with products purchased from outside sources, especially online and out of state pharmacies. If you still choose to purchase from other places, we require that you come in and sign a liability waiver that releases Atlantic Animal Hospital from any liability should your pet have a reaction to a medication that was not purchased from us. We also charge $7 per prescription.
