Atlantic Animal Hospital

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does Atlantic Animal Hospital treat small mammals (ie. hamsters, rabbits, gerbils, ferrets)?
A: Unfortunately we do not treat small mammals or exotics (reptiles/amphibians) at this time.
Q: Where are emergencies referred to after hours?
A: Emergencies are referred to Ocean State Veterinary Specialists, a 24-hour hospital located in East Greenwich. http://www.osvs.net/
Q: My pet has a surgery scheduled, how do I prepare them?
A: All surgery patients need to come in to the hospital on an empty stomach, so they may eat dinner the night before, but no food after Midnight. Dropoff for procedures is between 8:30AM to 9:00AM
Q: Can I schedule my pet's appointment via email?
A: At this time we are not equipped to do this, please call our office during regular business hours to schedule appointments.
Q: Can I get prices on procedures via email?
A: We can offer an estimate on what your pets procedure will cost, keep in mind that it is only an estimate and the amount can change once your pet is seen at our hospital.
Q: What are the office hours?
A: Atlantic Animal Hospital is open Monday through Friday 9 am – 5 pm with later evening hours until 7 pm on Tuesday. Saturday 9 am – 12 pm. We are closed on major holidays (New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas).
Q: Can I get my pets medication through online sources?
A: We recommend you purchase your pet's drugs, heartworm medications and flea and tick medications directly from us. We have seen issues with products purchased from outside sources, especially online and out of state pharmacies. If you still choose to purchase from other places, we require that you come in and sign a liability waiver that releases Atlantic Animal Hospital from any liability should your pet have a reaction to a medication that was not purchased from us. We also charge $7 per prescription.
Q: I have many questions about my new puppy or kitten, can I get answers via email?
You can get some answers to your questions but we recommend coming in for the first puppy or kitten visit and receive a packet full of information!
Q: I can't get to your hospital to pick up my pets medication during normal business hours, what do I do?
A: We have a white box outside our front door, we will have you pre-pay for your pets medication and we will leave it in that box for you to pick up. The only exception would be controlled medications, these must be picked up during normal business hours.
Q: Do you have a grooming facility?
A: We do not have a grooming facility. We are able to do full shave downs and de-matting on cats, sometimes requiring sedation.
Q: My pet had blood work done today, when can I expect the results?
A: If your pets blood work was done “in house,” the results are generally ready within ½ hour. If we sent your pets blood work to an outside laboratory, the turnaround time is generally 24 hours with the exception of cultures and biopsies which can take up to 3-5 days to complete. Dr. Ricard will call you with the results when they become available to us, please make sure you have a member of our staff enter the phone number in which you would like to be called in our computer.
Q: Does Atlantic Animal Hospital declaw cats?
A: We do not declaw cats, nor do we debark, tail dock or ear crop dogs.
